How to Buy a Healthy Sofa without Toxins.

Did you know that the sofa and other furniture in your home can impact your health, and also the future of our planet?

I didn’t know this for a long time, and the background surprised me. Read here…

- how to make sure you buy a healthy sofa

Why do standard sofas contain chemicals?

When I met my husband, I knew nothing about sofa-making.

For me, a sofa was a soft thing made of wood, textile, and maybe a couple of metal elements to hold the whole together.

But in fact, there can be a lot of chemical residues in a sofa, from the plywood, to glues, colouring and varnish, to the chemical treatment before and overseas shipping.

I never imagined that furniture can be an important source of air pollution and volatile toxins.

Glues and Varnishes.

Glues and adhesives.

They are omnipresent in compound wood chips and composite panels which are often used to save cost. A common chemical is formaldehyde. It is released in all stages of the life cycle of a piece of furniture.

Our master carpenter Fabio works only with solid untreated and dried wood, so - no chemicals. They cover all standard furniture. These chemical products release into the air long after the telltale smell of “new” has vanished.

When finishing wooden parts and feet, we use only natural stains and varnishes. The only things you might smell are orange oil and beeswax. We believe our pieces also look much prettier like this.

Fungicides and travel chemicals.

A lot of furniture is made overseas. And it is covered in chemicals that will prevent it from rotting, should it be stored in humid places while transiting from one continent to another. These can be insecticides, antibacterials, and also fungicides. If you wish to buy a healthy sofa without toxins, these are not really substances you would like in your pillow.

Producing exclusively in our workshop in Italy, and packaging in a careful way, we avoid this type of treatment.

We choose to produce completely without plastic, and use only certified raw materials, no compounds.

Instead of risking possible pollution and toxins, we avoid this altogether.
