Since decades, Barzaghi Danilo, the mother company of D3CO biosofa, has been providing the frame and the white upholstery for the iconic Proust armchairs of Alessandro Mendini.
One of the most acclaimed design pieces in the world, the Proust armchair was launched in 1978, when it was used to furnish the Palazzo dei Diamanti, in Ferrara during an exhibition. Shortly thereafter, the piece’s postmodern appeal captured the attention of connoisseurs and design insiders on an international scale. Since that time, these chairs, hand painted and decorated, have left a mark all over the world.
One of them is part of the permanent collection at the MOMA in New York.
They fetch as much as 50.000 at auction.
With the kind permission of Atelier Mendini, we are preparing a Proust armchair to be painted and decorated for a very special charity project with Collegamenti, an association that promotes art with and by people with disabilities. Inspired by the world of Jazz, the artists created a truly remarkable piece which is currently on tour in various museum to draw attention to their cause.
